Sam Fender was awarded the honor last month in his hometown

The artist has given the entirety of his £25k honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

Fender was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his latest record his work was declared the best record of the past year.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The money assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The concept that funds from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

Fender is among several artists to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when they received the award in the year 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would give their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

That year, rapper and singer the artist shared her award across several charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed better apparatus," she explained to outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

And winners that year they gave their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success affected another person's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had protected two local spots in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
